Hello!
With all the doom and gloom in the
The introduction of the Buildingtalk Eco Special entitled 'Sustainability in Building and New Eco Products' on 10 June is just one of those initiatives (see item 6), together with the launch of EXTRA newsletter sponsorship (see item 4), and there's a special limited offer for those of you in the marketing services sector (see item 7). Call the team for more information and do tell them I sent you.
Advertising manager, Steve Baguley, is getting out and about - talk to him about Printingtalk and Electronicstalk at the shows mentioned in item 3. Or email him to arrange a discussion regarding your plans for the remainder of 2008.
Finally, if you're currently seeking a Marketing Manager – please read item 8. A highly experienced marketing manager, with many years experience within the engineering and B2B sectors is available for full-time or contract work.
Until next month..... all the best to you from the team at Pro-Talk.
With kind regards,
Jackie

[1] From the managing editor's desk
=============================================================
Pro-Talk's managing editor, Lyndon White, writes: I'm looking for feedback from your perspective on the editorials in our newsletters.
In the past, we've done some surveys that have given us some figures as to whether readers find our editorials generally useful and worth reading. But this time I'm looking for feedback on how you, our
contributors, view the newsletters.
Some of our editors concentrate on the products and services that are featured in the newsletters, others comment on an issue that has some bearing on their industry, while some combine elements of both approaches.
Which approach do you prefer? Do you feel the editorial has any impact at all on how the reader digests the rest of the newsletter? Would you prefer just product and service news without an editorial?
The other thing I would like views on is the number of stories featured in editorial newsletters. Some editors pick a large amount of stories beyond their 'top 10'; others select a far more limited number in the expectation that only the most dedicated readers get beyond the top stories. Do you prefer a larger newsletter?
As we look to hone the presentation and content of our newsletters I'd be interested in any thoughts you might have.

[2] The Long View: how video can enhance your image

Andrew Long writes: Video is everywhere and if you are not convinced it works in a B2B environment, then think again.

A rather bizarre fact is that most people seem to get more information from a two to three minute video than they do from reading text for the same amount of time. The fact is that video pushes most of our buttons and helps us to process information quickly.

[3] Bratwurst or coffee...?
=============================================================
Steve Baguley with his Printingtalk 'hat' on will be attending the forthcoming Drupa show in
harder for you.
Steve is certainly getting around the shows, he's also going to be attending National Electronics Week, on the 17 and 18 June, this time representing Electronicstalk - no beer and bratwurst on offer here I'm afraid, but I'm sure Steve will stand you a coffee while he tells you about the benefits of your company advertising with Electronicstalk.
Not at either of these shows? But would like Steve to give you a call to discuss your schedule for the coming months - drop him an email and he'll get back to you.

[10] COMPETITION: win something useful?
=============================================================
Congratulations to Lizzie Kingsley of Simcyp Limited who was first out of the 'hat' with her April competition answer. The question was "Apart from your company contact details what else do you get free when you register to contribute news to any Pro-Talk website?" (Answer: a free weblink and free RSS feed, of course!). Lizzie wins a copy of 'The One-Minute Manager Meets the Monkey...' by Kenneth H Blanchard, together with the original 'The One-Minute Manager' book.
Thanks to everyone who entered the competition - don't give up, have another go - this month you've a chance to win something a little light hearted - 'The Joy of Work' Dilbert's guide to finding happiness at the expense of your co-workers, by Scott Adams.
Following on from his previous bestselling business books, 'The Dilbert Principle' and 'The Dilbert Future', Scott Adams applies his acute wit to the workplace and delivers a deceptively perceptive take on the place that we all spend so much time in: the office. Using the same blend of essays and cartoons that kept the 'Dilbert Principle' on the bestseller list for almost a year, this hilarious treatise on office life will have Dilbert fans rolling around with laughter.
And the question:
"Where is Drupa being held?"
Answers via email, by 20 June, please.
Winner to be announced next issue.

The Long View: how video can enhance your image
Video is everywhere and if you are not convinced it works in a B2B environment, then think again.
The main advantage of video is that people can learn about you quickly from a visual representation, instead of text. A rather bizarre fact is that most people seem to get more information from a two to three minute video than they do from reading text for the same amount of time. The fact is that video pushes most of our buttons and helps us to process information quickly.
If video is something you are not yet using on your website or as a promotional tool, then it is time to bring it to front of the queue and make it a priority.
A few hours spent taking the time to shoot a video is time well spent and you don't even have to fork out for expensive equipment. There are a number of specialist companies out there who can come in to your place of work and shoot a video in just a few hours. You should be able to get a good corporate video shot for around £350 - £500 and the uses for the end product will be well worth the investment.
Once you have a video, you should place it on your website and use it to deliver an overview of your company and its expertise. You should always have a link to a contact form or 'general brochure' link close by, so people can request information from you as soon as they have viewed the video - always make it easy for people and don't make them think about what to do
next!
One of the best formats for video is .swf or Flash format. This can easily be generated from an AVI and most other files using simple conversion software. Of course, if you get an outside company to shoot and product your video, they'll do all of this for you.
Make use of video today and give your potential customers the big picture.
